Useful Exercises

In addition to Combined Basics, here are some pattern movements (done for both sides instead of only one) turned into practice exercises that are helpful in and of themselves but should also be applicable in many areas of your training. As with other items presented you should get input from your Instructor or seniors to ensure correct movement. Developing your skills are the main point here, not memorization. Practice makes permanent (not perfect) so be sure to utilize right-repetition.

Combined Basics

Yan Ap Ki Bon

6 techniques: middle punch, rising block, side block, front kick, side kick, combination knifehand strike-front punch. Shown here as 3 of each although 5 of each is generally done. If adequate space is available 7 or even 9 repetitions can be done.

4-SQUARE EXERCISES

These exercises are techniques/movements taken from some of our patterns. While most are done with only one side within the pattern, these are purposely performed with both sides to help you develop your skills with more integrity. Each combination involves turning and flowing in a sequential manner. If done correctly, like the patterns they come from, you should finish in the same spot you started.
